What to Expect When You Visit Waxi Taxi for the First Time: A Beginner’s Guide

Whether you're tired of daily shaving, dealing with stubble, or simply curious about what all your friends are raving about, we're excited to welcome you. First-time waxing can feel intimidating, but we're here to make your experience as comfortable as possible. Our salons are designed to be welcoming, friendly, and inclusive of all. Waxing is essential self-care, but most importantly, we want you to feel comfortable in our salons.
To help achieve this goal, we have compiled a short primer of our most frequently asked questions so you know what to expect for your first waxing appointment.
Here are a few things to know before your first appointment with The Waxi Taxi:
Hair Length Matters: For best results, hair should be about ¼ inch long (about the length of a grain of rice), which equates to 10-14 days of growth since the last time you shaved. Too short, and the wax can't grip properly; too long, and it can be more uncomfortable.
Skip the Exfoliation: While we encourage regular exfoliation to prevent ingrown hairs, avoiding scrubbing the area you wish to have waxed 24 hours before your appointment is best. Topicals that encourage cell turnover, like Retin A and Vitamin C creams, should be avoided for at least a week prior to waxing the face.
Consider Timing: For those who menstruate, try not to schedule your waxing in more intimate areas. For some, while menstruating, sensitivity is typically higher. However, we can absolutely still wax during your cycle; it just may be a bit more tender.
Plan Your Outfit: Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment. Tight jeans after a bikini wax? Not the best idea! Skirts, joggers, and cotton are your best friends after waxing.
Take a Pain Reliever: Taking an over-the-counter pain reliever, anti-inflammatory, about 30 minutes before your appointment may help if you're concerned about discomfort. Do not use a numbing spray or cream.
What to Expect During Your Waxi Taxi Service:
A Detailed Consultation: Before beginning, your Waxing Specialist will discuss your preferences and any concerns. This is the perfect time to ask questions! You’ll also be asked to fill out a new customer questionnaire; this helps us get to know you better and provide the best service possible. Come a few minutes prior to your appointment time to fill out your paperwork.
Privacy and Comfort: Our salons are a warm, welcoming place of self-care. Each waxing session, from brow and lip to more intimate areas, is done in our discreet private treatment areas. This is done for your privacy and comfort.
The Process: Your Waxing Specialist will:
- Cleanse and/or powder the area.
- Apply warm wax in small sections.
- Remove the wax with swift motions.
- Apply soothing post-wax products and discuss aftercare.
The Pain Question: Let's be honest—waxing isn't painless, especially for first timers. However, most clients report it's much less painful than anticipated. The sensation is quick, and your esthetician will use techniques to minimize discomfort. The best part is that the more regularly you receive waxing services, the less pain you should experience over time.
Duration: Most services take 10-45 minutes, depending on the area to be waxed.
